‘You win some, you lose some’… seasoned renovator Bernadette Janson accepts she may take a loss on a Redfern terrace up for February 16 auction bought for more than $1.2 million last October.
With the market deteriorating further in that time, Belle Property Surry Hills agents Con Fotaras and Leon Parker have been quoting a guide of $1.1 million to $1.2 million for the two-bedroom terrace at 10 Rennie St owned by the company set up by Ms Janson and three others called Rockstar Renos.
Ms Janson, with the experience of about 20 renovations for sale behind her and the advice of her architect son David Janson, has managed to keep the cost of the miraculous transformation to just over $80,000.
Yet she’s prepared for whatever happens at the auction of the terrace, which is just steps from the warehouse that was the longtime home of actress Claudia Karvan that sold for $2.85 million in December.
“You never really know what’s in front of you ….. if you lose on one, you’ll pick up on the next.”
One of renovations that’s been a real crowd pleaser is the new kitchen. “We replaced it, putting in some floating floors and added a skylight,” Ms Janson said.
“We put in some stacker doors to the courtyard which opens it right up, introduced some bluestone pavers, a barbecue area and some seating along the side and the panels on the wall look so beautiful.”
The young first home buyers, families and downsizers who have pouring into the open homes over the past few weeks have also been bowled over the by new bathroom, which has been modernised with quality fittings and appliances.
